Enrolling in Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

Overview

William James College requires all users to enroll in Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) to help protect their accounts and college resources. MFA is mandatory for all WJC accounts.

What is MFA?

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), sometimes called Two-Factor Authentication (2FA), adds an extra layer of security to your account by requiring a second form of verification in addition to your password.

You may already use MFA with online banking or other services. For example, after entering your password, you might be asked to approve a sign-in request or enter a code sent to your phone.

This additional security helps protect your William James College account from unauthorized access, even if your password becomes compromised.

How does MFA Work?

When signing in to your WJC account from an off-campus location, you may be prompted to verify your identity using your enrolled authentication method.

After successfully verifying your identity, you typically will not be prompted again on the same device unless:

  • You sign out of your account
  • You clear your browser data
  • You use a different browser or device
  • You access your account from a new location

Enrollment Process

If you have not yet enrolled in MFA, you will be prompted during sign-in.

  1. Sign in to your WJC account from an off-campus location.
  2. When prompted, select Begin Setup.
  3. Choose and configure your preferred authentication method.

You may enroll in multiple methods to provide backup options.

Available Authentication Methods

OneLogin Protect (Recommended)

Install the OneLogin Protect app on your smartphone and approve sign-in requests through the app or a push notification.

OneLogin SMS

Receive a verification code by text message.

OneLogin Voice

Receive a phone call with a verification code. Recommended for users without a smartphone.

Microsoft Authenticator or Google Authenticator

Install the authenticator app on your smartphone and use it to verify sign-in requests.

Note: OneLogin Protect, Microsoft Authenticator, and Google Authenticator require installing an app on a mobile device. If you prefer not to install an app, OneLogin SMS or OneLogin Voice are recommended alternatives.
